Geographical Regions

The Nakasendō winds through highly diverse landscapes of the country, influencing the physical walk, culture and food. These regions can largely be classified as Urban, Transitional, Mountains and the Biwa Basin. Each of these regions, as well as the modern-day prefectures have their own introductory overview to provide historical and cultural context as well as practical preparation for the walk itself…
